Gioviale Italian Spinone

bella giornata

How it Started

My name is Nicky Peden. I live in the small town of South Shields which is on the North East coast of England. I share my life and home with my partner Sue and our dogs, cats and tortoises. All of animals live indoors as valuable members of our family.

There have always been animals in my life. My father was a vet and I was a lay veterinary nurse, groom and kennel maid until ill health forced me to give up work. My first dogs were English Setters, Bullmastiffs and Wolfhound.

I first came into contact with an Italian Spinone while visiting a local kennel. 2 big brown roan dogs were staying. I had no idea what breed they were but resolved to find out more and to own one eventually.

My love affair with the Italian Spinone began when I met Gecko who was owned by Moya Wilson. I was lucky enough to be allowed to bring home one of her pups who I named Josh.........He later became the original stud dog behind the very sucessful Riccini Show Kennel.

Following Josh came George and Merlin, both from the Riccini kennel.

Boo came to stay with me temporarily while Linda Collins (Wynsett Spinone) was unwell and Drew followed a few months later. Again from Riccini. Linda and I agreed that if I were to have a litter from Boo then Drew would be an ideal choice of stud. Unfortunately Linda lost her fight with cancer. Boo became a permanent part of the Gioviale household. My only regret is that Linda never got to see the litter.
